Deck of Haunts offers an unusual take on the roguelike deckbuilder genre - here you are not a hero fighting monsters, but the cursed estate itself, thirsty for human souls. Your goal is to survive 28 nights, methodically destroying or driving crazy curious visitors, from ordinary tourists to armed police officers and priests with exorcist intentions.
The gameplay is built around two key mechanics: managing a deck of cards and expanding the house. Cards allow you to deal damage, drain the sanity of your victims, or manipulate their movements, and new rooms — from armories to mirror halls — enhance the effects. Random traits of visitors add a special charm: some ignore corpses, while others, on the contrary, run away at the sight of blood. The visual style combines dark gothic with a touch of irony — the moment when another “daredevil” enters the house with a phrase is especially funny.
Despite its apparent simplicity, Deck of Haunts requires strategic planning. Success depends on how well you combine cards and think through the labyrinth of rooms to lure guests into traps. However, the balance is still weak: some card combinations make the passage trivial, and the final “boss” sharply increases the difficulty.
